EDS Providing Hot Meals to Displaced Residents at Temporary Shelter

PHILADELPHIA (December 11,2018) The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) continues to provide comfort and care to survivors of a fire that occurred at the Overbrook Gardens apartments in the 900 block of North 63rd Street on December 10, 2018.

The EDS team served on-scene for over 19 hours assisting first responders on Monday. Currently, more than 40 individuals are being housed at the West Philadelphia High School that is serving as a temporary shelter for displaced residents. EDS has been assisting evacuees with meals, Emotional and Spiritual Care and other goods since the shelter opened. EDS teams on the frontlines in Florida

PHILADELPHIA (October 11, 2018) – The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware’s Emergency Disaster Response (EDS) team is on standby to respond to the southern U.S. states impacted by Hurricane Michael. With the widespread damage of the storm already being felt and what is expected to be an extended relief effort, The Salvation Army’s divisional EDS department is readying a team of staff and volunteers for potential deployment. Robert Myers, Emergency Disaster Services Director, The Salvation Army of Eastern PA & DE, anticipates sending personnel to serve on incident management teams, operate mobile feeding kitchens (canteens) and provide emotional and spiritual care to storm victims.

For 4th Day, Pendel Provides Comfort, Care & Hope in PA Communities Hardest Hit by This Week’s Flash Floods

(August 16, 2018) The Salvation Army of Eastern PA & DE’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) continued for a fourth day in its efforts to provide hope, care and comfort to clean-up crews, local officials and residents impacted by this week’s flash floods in central and eastern Pennsylvania. On Thursday, August 16, teams fanned out in communities through Berks, Bradford, Columbia, Susquehanna and Schuylkill Counties, providing meals, beverages and clean-up kits to local families.

towanda-4.jpgSalvation Army representatives worked to connect residents with resources through partner agencies.  They are working closely with local and state officials to continually assess needs and deliver service to impacted communities. This is all possible through a coordinated partnership with The Salvation Army’s Service Extension Units, Corps Community Centers and volunteers across the region.

In Columbia County on Thursday, a Salvation Army team went door-to-door in Bloomsburg, distributing clean-up kits to residents who are in need of cleaning their homes damaged by the floods.  A Salvation Army canteen (mobile feeding operation) provided food and drinks to those in need in Benton. Pendel EDS Launches Operations in 6 PA Counties Impacted by Devastating Flash Floods

Salvation Army Service Extension Unit Volunteers Give out Clean-up Kits in Hamburg, Berks Co.

(August 15, 2018) The Salvation Army of Eastern PA & DE’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has deployed additional teams of staff and volunteers to flood ravaged communities across eastern and central Pennsylvania, providing valuable support to first responders and locally impacted residents. As of Wednesday, August 15, EDS operations are underway in Berks, Bradford, Columbia, Susquehanna, Schuylkill and Sullivan Counties in response to devastating flash flooding that occurred earlier in the week. This is all possible through a coordinated partnership with The Salvation Army’s Service Extension Units, Corps Community Centers and volunteers across the region.

Currently, EDS has deployed four canteens (mobile feeding operations), as well as three support vehicles and three trailers to distribute food and beverages, as well as clean-up kits to residents who are in need of cleaning their homes damaged by the floods. Salvation Army representatives are also working closely with local and state officials to assess needs and deliver service to impacted communities.

“We are monitoring the Susquehanna River and a few of the major creeks for potential flood crests,” said Bob Myers, Emergency Disaster Services Director, The Salvation Army of Eastern PA & DE. “If those bodies of water continue to rise, it will further increase our level of response.”

EDS Provides Comfort & Care to Schuylkill Co Communities Devastated by Flash Floods

The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) activated teams in Schuylkill County in response to significant flooding from summer storms in several local communities on Monday, August 13, 2018.

Staff and volunteers based at The Salvation Army of Pottsville and The Salvation Army’s Service Extension Unit supplyed meals for first responders and displaced residents in Tremont and Donaldson. They also provided coffee, water, and snacks to emergency responders at a command center established in Frackville. On Tuesday, EDS will be distributing clean-up kits to residents who are in need of cleaning their homes damaged by the floods.
